“At the crossroads of skin care and color cosmetics, a new emerging category “

BB cream, referred to as “Blemish Balm” or Beauty Balm,” originated in Korea in the 1980’s. It is a multifunctional product that blends skincare and cosmetic attributes using botanical ingredients. Used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons on patients undergoing laser treatments to help shield and regenerate delicate skin, they are now growing in Western markets. Korean celebrities acted on it with heavy endorsements sparking a huge craze in Korea and BB creams were recognized as "the secret of Korean actresses.” They now comprise 13% of the Korean cosmetic market.

BB creams come in a variety of different formulations, mainly perceived as having anti-inflammatory and soothing effects while also providing light color coverage. They are a multi-tasking, all-in-one combination of the following categories: moisturizer, primer, foundation, and sunblock. Currently BB creams are being tailored to Western tastes with the addition of whitening or brightening properties.

Herve will talk about the evolution and the future of BB Creams.
